Dr. Jackson is a native Texan, born and raised in West Texas. He obtained his B.A. in Chemistry at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Dr. Jackson attended medical school at the University of Texas - Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas. His internship was at John Peter Smith Hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas. He was an Ophthalmology resident at the University of Texas - Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Jackson completed his fellowship training in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus at the University of Iowa in 1976. He received his certification from the American Board of Ophthalmology in October, 1976.

Dr. Jackson opened his practice November 1, 1976 in Austin, Texas. He is currently holding a 25 year position as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at UTMB - Galveston.

In his spare time, Dr. Jackson enjoys ranching, traveling and is an accomplished cook. He has won numerous awards and has been featured in the Ladies Home Journal, March 1996, in their "Best Cooks' Secret Recipe" article. His recipes have been widely enjoyed by his patients that they encouraged him to publish a cookbook. His cookbook, "Middle Creek Ranch Cookbook", is now in its 2nd Edition.
